MR. CHRISTOPHER:
"Well good
morning gang! I'm so glad you could join us
today.
We have a very special day ahead of us. You see
Penny
and I are doing some indepth research on some
of the most fascinating mission folks."
PENNY:
"That's right, we're researching MKs!"
MR. CHRISTOPHER:
"Now, if
you've been watching Kids On Mission at all,
you probably
already know what the intials M-K mean
do
you remember?
PENNY:
"Here check out this KidQuiz and see if you
know what 'MK' means. Then look at the rest of
the list to see how many of these other missionary
abbreviations YOU can identify!"
SURFER
BOB: "And don't forget that SB
stands for 'lil ole' me
SURFER BOB!"
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "Oh, is that what that
stands for? I thought 'SB' stood for 'Stinky Breath'."
PENNY:
"Now Mr. Christopher, that is absurd.
But, now that you mention it
I always
thought that 'SB' stood for "Squid Brain'."
SURFER
BOB: "OK
OK
ha
ha
ha
ha
go
ahead and yuk it up at my expense. I'm thick-skinned,
I can take it!"
PENNY:
"Seriously though, Bob, please see if you
can round up any insider info, for us, on Missionary
Kids or MKs!"
SURFER
BOB: "A-OK, you S-B-W-B!"
PENNY:
"S-B-W-B?"
SURFER
BOB: "Yeah! That stands fer 'Surfer
Bob Wanna Be'!"
PENNY:
"Oh brother."
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "The important thing
that we need to learn today is that when people
are called to the Lord's work on the international
mission field, they are not just committing themselves
to the work. They are committing their entire
family to Christ's Great Commission. This includes
their kids. These kids have to make a lot of big
sacrifices in order to share in the call of their
parents"
PENNY:
"Wow! If you think about it, MKs must go
through a lot of changes. They have to move to
a different country, where the people speak a
different language, and eat different foods."
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "Not to mention all of
the things that they have to leave behind. Things
like family and friends. Many MKs live for years
at a time apart from special people like uncles,
aunts, cousins, and grandparents."
PENNY:
"I was told, by an MK, that a lot
of missionary kids call the other missionaries
where they live uncle and aunt
sort of
like stand-in relatives. I think that is cool!"
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "That is cool. You know
these special kids DO make a lot of sacrifices.
But, I'm sure that there are a lot of rewards
too. I would guess that there are a lot of advantages
to growing up in another culture."
PENNY:
"I think that would be exciting. Speaking
of MKs growing up in another culture. Let's
take
a quick look back at some of the MKs that we
have gotten to know over the years
here
on 'Kids On Mission'!"
SURFER
BOB: "Speaking of MKs! Take you a
look-see at this here RE-port from Slovenia. There
was a big ole' camp for missionary kids held there!
This'll give you a closer look at a whole barrel-full
of them there M-Ks!"
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "It looks like MKs from
all over Europe had a lot of fun at that camp!"
PENNY:
"It sure does. I wish I could have gone and
hung out with them!"
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "Well, at the beginning
of the day I promised that this was going to be
a very special day. And, it has been! But, before
we close up shop, I want to share one more special
surprise. Come on in Hanna! This is Hanna and
she is a MK heading to the mission field. I wanted
to wrap things up today by having you meet Hanna."
HANNA:
"Hello!"
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "Here, have a seat over
here and let me ask you a few questions. First
of all, where will you and your family be going?"
HANNA:
"Suriname, in South America"
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "What is something you
are looking forward to doing in Suriname?"
HANNA:
"Going to the Rain Forest."
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "What will be the thing
you will miss most about the United States?"
HANNA:
"My grandparents."
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "I know it's hard to
leave your family. We will be praying for you
as you move. Thank you very much for being here
today. And, thank you gang!"
PENNY:
"Yeah, thanks for stopping by
remember,
I-Y-C-W-C!"
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: "What does that stand
for?"
PENNY:
"If you're curious we're curious! Bye gang!"
