MR.
CHRISTOPHER: OK gang! I’m glad
that you could join us today. Hang on, because
this
is going to be a wild ride!
PENNY:
It sure is! You see we are going to tour
Africa in order to catch a glimpse of some things
that are important in reaching that vast continent
with the good news of Jesus Christ!
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: So many things affect
our abilities to join God in what He is doing
to make
sure that each and every African hears His plan
of salvation.
PENNY: Things
like war, famine, disease, false faiths … all
of these things work against local Baptists and
Southern Baptists
as they try
to win the continent for Christ.
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: We hope that everyone
will rally together to pray for the continent.
Through
prayer we can fight against evil and bring the
lost to Him. But, it’s going to take
a lot of prayer. Each one of us needs to
be committed
to the task. Are you committed to the task?
PENNY:
During this special time of prayer we want to
help you, our kids on mission partners, to know
what to pray for. So, why don’t we begin.
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: Sounds great! Let’s:
Pray ‘Round Africa!
SURFER
BOB: No, Christopher … let’s
PRAY ROUND AFRICA YESSIREEEE … BOB-O!!!!!
YEEE-DOGGIES!!!!!
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: You know, one of the most
devastating and crippling factors for missionaries
and local Baptists doing their work on the continent
has been war. War has affected many regions of
Africa.
PENNY:
When tribal groups and countries are at war,
missionaries are restricted in what they can
do. Local churches
are often attacked, and Christians are killed.
Hate-filled war and love-filled Christian
missions
don’t mix.
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: But, there are many stories
of heroism as Christians continue to share Jesus,
in spite of the fighting.
SURFER
BOB: Hey amigitos, Surfer Bob here! I couldn’t
help but overhear all the talk about war in Africa.
Take a gander at this here factoid and you’ll
see just who is currently at war on the big ole’
continent!
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: War kills. But so does disease.
The spread of AIDS is a terrible problem for many
countries in Africa. Countries like Uganda and
Zimbabwe are seeing vast segments of their population
killed as a result of AIDS.
PENNY:
Many of the people living in these countries
don’t have access to educational resources
about the disease. Myth has mixed with fact in
confusing the people about what causes AIDS and
how to prevent it.
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: And AIDS isn’t the
only illness that the people have to contend
with.
Malaria, cholera and deadly viruses like the
Ebola virus have killed hundreds of people.
SURFER
BOB: Hang on KOMsters! You’ll learn
all about it in this lil’ ditty!
SURFER
BOB: Whoa, lil’ dudes, disease
sure is a powerful problem in Africa. But
so are the forces of nature.
PENNY:
Well, you’ve obviously done your research
Surfer Bob, because you are exactly right. Weather
phenomena like drought and famine have certainly
impacted our ability to share the good news
with
the people.
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: Weather has been a hindrance,
but like in the case of war and disease,
God always
finds a way to use us to share His love with
the lost of Africa.
SURFER
BOB: Yessireee! There always seems
to be either too much water or too little
water. It’s
like surfin’ … the waves seem to
always be too little or too … WHOA!!!!!!!
PENNY:
Bob. Bob, are you still there?
SURFER
BOB: Cough … cough! Yeah, I’m
here. But just barely.
PENNY:
Hey Bob, remember when you gathered information
on the flooding in Mozambique … that was
very captivating. Do you think that you could
find
us some more info on natural disasters … you
know drought, famine, floods, that sort of thing … and
how they affect the continent?
SURFER
BOB: Cough! Cough! Got it right here, Pennarino.
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: You know, part of prayer
is not just asking God to help us with our
problems.
We must also praise Him for the mighty things
that He has done and continues to do.
PENNY:
Like in Africa!
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: Yep, just like in Africa!
God is doing mighty things from Benin in West
Africa to Zambia in Southern Africa. All across
the continent the lost are hearing of and accepting
Christ’s offer of eternal life!
SURFER
BOB: Whewie! That sure is great news!
And, speaking of great news … watch
this amigitos!
SURFER
BOB: Whew!!! Penny … Christopher … I
sure hope that you dudes are finished for
the
day, ‘cause I am plum worn out!
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: Yes, it has definitely been
a busy day.
PENNY:
But we have covered a lot of ground, haven’t
we?
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: We sure have! But, remember
gang, knowing is not the same as doing. We must
all take the knowledge that God has given us and
use it to bring glory to His name.
PENNY:
For you kids on mission the most important
thing that you can DO, right away, is pray. Pray
for Africa. Remember all that you have seen and
pray.
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: Why don’t we all
start right now, in fact. Bow your heads
with me …
Dear God, we know that war, disease, famine,
drought, false teachings and much more will
always hinder
our ability to bring the good news to the continent
of Africa. But, we will continue to be faithful
in the task of bringing that good news, anyway.
And, we pray that You will strengthen us as
we
bring the good news in the face of all of these
obstacles. Please help our Southern Baptist
missionaries,
local Baptists and other Christians as they
share your plan of salvation all across the
continent.
PENNY:
And, we praise You, Lord, for all of the
many things that You are currently doing to
save
the lost of Africa. Thank You, Jesus, for letting
us be involved in your work. We praise you,
Amen.
MR.
CHRISTOPHER: Amen. We’ll see
you all next time. Remember … PRAY ‘ROUND
AFRICA … YES! PRAY gang, PRAY!
PENNY:
Bye!
