Factoid:
The late-1800s in China were filled with turmoil. A major rebellion called the Boxer Rebellion swept the country. The Boxers were Chinese members of secret societies that trained in martial arts. They hated foreigners and roamed the land in groups, attacking Chinese Christians and foreign missionaries.
