Student Missions
Students from California Baptist University spent two weeks working with Iraqi Kurds and Muslims in a refugee camp in Bari, Italy. They played games, sang songs and developed friendships with these refugees. Hope was instilled in the hearts of some who never have experienced God’s truth and love.

PENNY: Yeah, OK. Well, I wish things could have worked out differently, because I was really hoping we could reach out to those people. OK. Keep me informed, and let me know if there is anything I can do. Thanks for calling, bye.

MR. CHRISTOPHER: What’s up, Penny?

PENNY: Oh, hello Mr. Christopher. I’m having to rethink my mission trip this year because of fear and trouble that has come from fighting in the Middle East! Plus, the events of September 11th, 2001, are still in the back of everyone’s minds. My team was supposed to travel to three different areas in the Middle East and share Jesus with some of the Muslim people there. But now we’re not sure if we can even go!

MR. CHRISTOPHER: I can tell that you’re really feeling God calling you to reach out to these people, but now is the time for your team to go to Him in prayer and really seek His will in all of this. Perhaps God wants you to go … but just not at this time. Or maybe there is something your group has planned, but God has other plans for you.

PENNY: You’re right Mr. C. Prayer is so important that is the only place where we will find our answers!

SURFER BOB: Pennorita, if there’s anythin’ I can do to help out, just let me know. I’m still hopin’ I can join your team on the Web … wherever you end up.

PENNY: Thanks Surfer Bob. You’ll definitely be a big help. Have you been working on your translator again?

SURFER BOB: Yep, yep, yep! I’ve downloaded and uploaded some bits and bytes to my handy-dandy, hand-held computation device. Here, check this out! WHOA! How did that … what’s goin’ on?! Wha …

PENNY: (laugh) Keep working on it Bob.

MR. CHRISTOPHER: (laugh) You’re sure you want Surfer Bob to follow you to another country?

PENNY: I have confidence that he will lend a helping hand … once he gets things figured out!

SURFER BOB: Hey Penny! My hands are uh … are uh … outta sight right now. Why don’t you watch this here Factoid that I got for ya, while I try and reconfigure the settings on my fancy gizmo.

PENNY: OK, Bob. I hope this works!

PENNY: I had no idea that international missions had been affected so much by 9/11. I mean, I assumed that some trips had to be cancelled, but that seems like a lot! But if the number of career missionaries has increased, doesn’t that make volunteer trips just as important?

MR. CHRISTOPHER: You’re exactly right, Penny. Many long-term missionaries need the help of volunteers, like you and me, to help with their various ministries. That means most of the volunteers are needed to be in the country where a particular missionary is serving.

SURFER BOB: Hey Amigitos! I’m still having a problem with my electronico gizmo. Whoa! See what I mean?!But with all this talk ‘bout volunteers and goin’ on trips and such … I think I managed to surf up somethin’ you can use right now.

PENNY: Great Bob-o! Let’s see it!

PENNY: Well that was such a blessing to watch! Although I hope and pray for the salvation of refugees in those camps, I feel so much better now.

MR. CHRISTOPHER: I think I know what you’re talking about. You’re feelings have something to do with Loni, and the folks from CBU, right?

PENNY: Yeah! We saw that some of those volunteers, like Loni, were in the same situation that I’m in right now. Where she originally wasn’t sure if she could go on a mission trip … and God blessed her team with more than they ever could have imagined!

MR. CHRISTOPHER: It just proves that if we are patient, and wait for the Lord to show us His greatness, we will be blessed many times over.

PENNY: Like you said in the beginning Mr. C, I should be spending my time praying to God the Father. Asking for His wisdom and His will for our mission trip.

MR. CHRISTOPHER: That reminds me of today’s KOM Powerverse! Take a look.

KOM POWERVERSE:

James 1:2-5, NIV

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

SURFER BOB: Doh! This silly translator doohickey! I don’t know what’s wrong with it!

ACCOUNTANT BILL: Um, Bob? Oh Bob? Um, there is um something you really must see.

SURFER BOB: What is it Accountant Bill? Can’t you see I got problems here?

ACCOUNTANT BILL: Well … yes that is quite obvious! That is um … what I, uh … wanted to speak with you about. It seems that your purchase order was for a “Cyber TRANSPORTER circuit board.” I believe that is your problem, Surfer Bob. Yes.

SURFER BOB: What?! Unless I am wrong, and I am NEVER wrong, I specifically ordered a cyber-TRANSLATOR board!

ACCOUNTANT BILL: Well, um … evidence would suggest that, um … you indeed have made the wrong selection on your order form.

SURFER BOB: Now A.B., why didn’t you give that order form a final look-see before it got sent?!

ACCOUNTANT BILL: Me? Oh, I never got to see this order! You’re always ordering things from those dot com companies and …

SURFER BOB: Billy Boy, I think it’s time you started being a little more careful in your paperwork … (they continue to argue as their audio fades)

MR. CHRISTOPHER: (laugh) Just like the Powerverse says … count it all joy, Bob!

PENNY: (laugh) Hey, my missions team is supposed to have a meeting tonight so I think I’ll head on out a little early. Thanks for your encouragement Mr. C. I’ll pass it along at my meeting, which I’m sure is going to become a prayer meeting.

MR. CHRISTOPHER: And I’m sure the Lord will lead you in the right direction. (to camera) As a Kid On Mission, we want to know how you are becoming involved in international missions.
